“I really must check out the snow dome [Ski Dubai],” he said from under a tweed flat cap. “I’ve been learning to snowboard and I really want to have a go. I’m not amazing but I’ve just about got the hang of it. I can carve which I’m told is pretty important.”

“It’s only a short trip, I go home on Sunday. Dubai is a strange place – it is in the middle of the desert and yet there are these amazing building everywhere. We’ve just had crap weather in the UK for so long I’m happy to be in the sunshine. It’s so hot.”

“It’s hard to be away [from his family]. I miss them but it’s also nice to have a break. I’ve had a bit of time off with my daughter and family and friends recently which was nice. I missed a big chunk of the first year of her life but it was a sacrifice I had to make to give her the things I never had. She’s getting a bit older now so we can start bringing her out a bit.”
