‘You Give Me Something’ is basically a young man’s lovesong, about the early stage of a relationship especially. It started as a straightforward lovesong with the line ‘Will you stay with me in the morning’, but James thought that it sounded too lovy dovey and a bit boring. “There were already too many lovesongs.” He thought that such lovesongs don’t hold the truth for many people. So he wrote a more original, honest and meaner lovesong.
This song has been used in CBS’s Ghost Whisperer (s03e07), in ABC’s Ugly Betty (s01e17), as well as in the movie Made Of Honour (2008).
